You mean you don't convert your ASCII password to HEX, then paste them in to the password box?

Slack.

with the magic of Linux....
create a file called "bob" with you super secret password in it
then $xxd bob bob2
copy the hex contents of bob2!

You could knock up a bit of python code to do the conversion or use the cheat sheet to manually work it out in hex.

Now, if only I could find a conversion table of ascii to hex ...

You are correct there .. but I think you'll find it doesn't work correctly if you have spaces in your passphrase

Well, that was the case for me .. and a lot of other people on google for that matter. The WICD gui would never connect (no matter how it was configured) to either WPA or WPA2 networks.

This sounds like something you would like to try in your test lab right?? I mean .. who wants to be sitting at the beach on a weekend when they could be inside surrounded by a castle made out of old computers.

You love to make it hard for yourself. This is where being a mindless GUI-loving Ms drone comes in handy.

#start-network
this starts network connection manager (wicd)

in then in xwindows use the pretty wicd gui (bottom right of the screen) to configure your wireless. Much easier and less typing!
